Center Space is a constantly evolving environment facilitating a variety of movement forms, performance, and visual art. Center Space opened in July of 2002 and has hosted numerous classes and workshops from all over the world and has become known as a hub for cultural music and dance. Class descriptions:

Tai Chi: – with Mark Wallaert – Yang Style 108 Taijiquan Taiji (Tai Chi) is an Internal Style of Kung Fu.  As an internal art, strength is cultivated in awareness and understanding of body structure and intention.  Practice is centered on the Yang style of 108 (long) form with warm ups including joint opening, stretching and breathing (Chi Gung) exercises.  Interested students may try classes at the beginning of each month.  Call 503.231.8155 for more information.

Afro-Cuban and Brazilian Dance: – with Donna Oefinger – Monday nights - This is a high energy and exultant exploration of sacred dance from Brazil which represents the Orixas.  Orixas make up a pantheon of African deities that embody different forces of nature and energy, such as fire, the ocean, thunder, industry, sensuality, the hunt, and so forth. By dancing the movements of an Orisha, one can explore the embodiment of these different archetypes.  $10. - drop in $90 for 10 classes    503.284.1170

Afro-Cuban Dance: – with Donna Oefinger – This class is similar to the afro-Brazilian class in its cultural significance.  Cuban sacred dance is intricately woven together with the music of interlocking drum rhythms.  These unique movements will challenge the language of your body and its rhythmic skills. $10. Samba: – with Donna Oefinger – Come enjoy the celebratory carnival dance from both the regions of Rio de Janeiro and Salvador. West African Dance: – West African Dance with Alseny Yansane - This class is designed to accommodate dancers of all skill levels and experience. Whether you are a beginning or advanced student or whether you are looking to improve your technique or just get a good work out this class is for you. All classes are accompanied by live drumming. Hip Hop: – With Andre' baker – This class if for anyone who loves Hip Hop movement.  It's high energy, fun and can be challenging.  Classes range from beginning to advance.  Drop in cost is $12., monthly $40.

Yoga: – With Wisteria Loeffler – This is an Iyengar style yoga class.  Wisteria brings a focus on alignment and self acceptance to her teaching.  Wisteria completed a 110 hour teacher training course with her teacher Kofi Busia, and has been a devoted student of yoga for about 9 years.  $15. drop in / $10 for 10 classes.  wisterial@gmail.com

Beginning Salsa: – with Angelko and Maki – $35 for 4 weeks pre-register. Drop-ins welcome $10 per class. Singles and Couples are welcome!  No prior salsa experience is required. We will cover the basic steps, a couple of turns, and the cross body lead; emphasis on Cuban motion and good lead/follow technique. Wear clothes you are comfortable moving in and shoes you feel well balanced in that pivot easily for turns; non marking soles. Be ready to learn, and most importantly, to have fun.

Intermediate Salsa: – with Angelko and Maki – Same price as beginning. Singles and Couples are welcome!  In this class, we will work on understanding and development of the essential movement, connection, and musicality techniques and skills. Each month's class will focus on a different topic from the wide range of the intermediate level Salsa topics. After warm-ups, each class will build on a pattern from the previous week. Wear clothes you are comfortable moving in and shoes you feel well balanced in that pivot easily for turns; non marking soles.

Prenatal Yoga - Pregnancy gives us time to prepare for birth and birth gives us tools to use as mothers. Our bones now benefit from rolling outward and our minds need support to relinquish control, in the process of completely surrendering the body and mind to allow birth to happen. This class combines yoga, pain coping practices and exercises to free the body of tension and discomfort while preparing the body and mind for birth. No yoga experience is needed.
